Why Summer Institute 2025 Is the Leadership Retreat You’ve Been Waiting For

One of the cornerstones of our work at Partnerships is embracing the power of reflection. In practicing what we preach, our own reflection has shown us that while much of our work is dedicated to authentic learning and how it impacts the student and teacher experience, the key to systemic transformation is authentic leadership!

So, in 2025, the Summer Institute will have a break-out track with about 10 high-impact leadership sessions! We think it’s going to be so good that we hope you even consider making the Summer Institute the home of your summer leadership retreat!

Leaders unlock doors, advocate, honor the voices of educators, remove barriers, inspire action, and alter systems. And because leaders are the linchpin to structural change, the Summer Institute 2025 is focusing an entire breakout track on inspiring building and district leaders to lead authentic learning!

Join leaders from some of our “Partnership schools” of 2024-2025, like:

  • Janel Chapman, CAO and soon-to-be Superintendent, Fairbanks Local

  • Lance Hosteleter, Superintendent, United Local

  • Jay Paroda, Superintendent, Delaware Area Career Center

  • Buddy Berry, Superintendent, Eminence Schools, Kentucky, will also be back to facilitate a leadership session.

From the first year of the Summer Institute, we have strongly encouraged schools to attend as teams with building or district leaders and teachers. As we focus on a strong sense of team, more than ever, we see the need for leadership that is empowered, genuine, innovative, and highly-skilled.

Leaders who embrace a new vision for teaching and learning need to rethink decision making and let go of long-standing leadership muscle memory to lead differently. We know this, so we invite you to our breakout sessions with other building and district leaders. Some of those session titles include:

  • Technical vs. Adaptive Change: Why They Matter for Authentic Leadership, Emmy Beeson

  • What Shared Leadership Looks Like, Courtney Davis and Jen Stewart

  • Transformative Leadership 2.0, Tracey Colson

  • Leadership Flowing from Your Shared Vision, George Philohower

  • Connecting Authentic Learning and the Science of Reading, Adam Booth and team

  • Transformation through Teams, Nick Salmon

  • Let’s Talk About It! A Facilitated Dialogue about Authentic Leadership, Kristin Bourdage and Tracey Colson

Consider making the Summer Institute your leadership retreat for the year. You won’t regret it! Let’s lead and change learning together!
